The Chief Geronimo Foundation was conceived by Cesar Geronimo. Also known as "The Chief", Cesar played for the Cincinnati Reds and was a member of the "Big Red Machine". On July 29th, 2008, Cesar was inducted in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame, establishing Cesar as one of the Reds' greatest players.

The mission of the Chief Geronimo Foundation is to provide the lifelong benefits that sports can give, baseball in particular, to the children of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is one of the most beautiful places on the earth. It has endless pristine beaches and the entire country is surrounded by the aqua blue, crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. However it is a young democracy with limited resources. Opportunities are rare for the children there to be involved in sports. Most of the villages are poor, and parks, equipment and organizational resources do not exist. Cesar has recognized that most of the children of his country were being deprived of the wonderful benefits of sports.

His belief that children attain physical and emotional benefits through sports is the driving force behind the Chief Geronimo Foundation. Some of these benefits are improved physical health, positive self esteem, character building, and increased social skills. Having these benefits are essential if the children of the Dominican Republic are going to maximize their potential and contribute significantly to the positive development of their country and the world.

Cesar has realized that the benefits of sports are equally essential to the development of great ball players as well as talented doctors, scientists and teachers etc....

The Chief Geronimo Foundation's goal is to attach a sports field with a baseball diamond to every public school in the country. In addition, the Chief Geronimo Foundation will provide the equipment, coaches, and expertise to have competitive teams for children of all ages.

The financial resources needed to accomplish the goals of the Chief Geronimo Foundation will be acquired through private support and corporate sponsorship, as well as creative and systematic fund raising. In addition, an “Adopt A Child” program will be implemented.
